Is arthroscopic knee surgery even beneficial for advanced osteoarthritis?
My Mom has severe degenerative arthritis in her knee that’s unresponsive to pain medication and though I’m no doctor, I’m guessing that a joint replacement is the only option that would really help her. Of course, the doctor wants to exhaust all options before opting for replacement, but from everything I read, arthroscopic debridement for advanced arthritis is a completely worthless procedure and a waste of time and money. I’m going to have to burn up all my vacation to take care of my Mom after this procedure, and I’m guessing it won’t do a damn thing and she’ll need the replacement anyway.
Has anyone here actually benefited from arthroscopic knee surgery for severe arthritis? Should she get a second opinion or will most doctors opt for the less invasive technique anyway?

Regarding Arthritis in knee?
I have a sore knee, lots of history and injury to the knee. But one day, it just began to hurt really bad, swelled, and hit all of a sudden and has not gone away. Very painful, hard to bend back. and any side to side movement is very painful. I saw an orthopedic surgeon. She suggests that I take Celebrex (He got snip-it with me when I didn’t want to take Celebrex daily), And asked if I had good insurance. He gave me several options, scope, shooting in jel, just waiting awhile and finally knee replacement. He said he thinks this is arthritis. My questions- Can arthritis cause horrible pain on movement, which fells like something is caught, that come on so quick and sudden? I researched the Dr on the internet and he has written a couple of articles about joint replacement. Am I reasonable to wonder if he just wants to make money by replacing my knee joint?
