A Patient’s Guide to Knee and Hip Replacement: Everything You Need to Know

Product Description

Written by a patient for other patients and in consultation with an Orthopedic Surgeon and a Physical Therapist, A Patient’s Guide to Knee and Hip Replacement takes readers through the complete joint-replacement process, from the decision whether to have Surgery and the Preop Preparations, through the operation itself, the hospital stay, and the recovery period.

Irwin Silber has had both knees and one hip replaced. Like hundreds of thousands of other joint-replacement patients, Silber is now physically active and free from pain as a result of today’s highly effective medical technology. His chronicle of his own experiences, supplemented by interviews with many others who have had joints replaced, describes the whole procedure from a patient’s perspective, including:

* How to determine whether it’s time for a joint replacement, and why doctors are sometimes hesitant to perform surgery; possible consequences of delaying surgery

* A full description of the actual surgery, including the risks involved

* Information about postoperative physical therapy, including tips on how to prepare your home for the recovery process

Clearly written and profusely illustrated, A Patient’s Guide to Knee and Hip Replacement is an informative and helpful book for anyone contemplating or already undergoing joint replacement.

A Patient’s Guide to Knee and Hip Replacement: Everything You Need to Know

How do you know when your knees are so bad they need to be replaced? I could go on using NSAIDs, Glucosamine,

calcium and magnesium supplementation with MSN etc. my triceps to lift me from sitting, leg extensions to strengthen the quads to hold knee joints steady, rest a lot, have steroid and Supartz injections every year, etc. But, really, maybe I’ve passed the law of diminishing returns? Have you had knee replacement surgery ? Recommend ?
Can we ever run hard again ??????
BTW: AM 64 y/o male 225 lbs (too much, am dieting) fairly active & working out……)

Bio hazard materials…..I know they take care with them….needles, body parts ect….and I know ………..?

they incinerate the body part. I recently had a small (big toe) joint replacement. I had a huge bone spur and had worn away the cartilage. They took about a 1/4 inch off the tarsal and fitted me plastic joints. They let me look and hold the bone and spur in a bio bag. I would like to know specifics, Why I couldn’t keep the bones. I am wondering as in the future I am face with knee replacement surgery and I know how strange it sound, but would like to keep the bones that I worn away. Does and one now why you can’t keep then and what is the OSHA regulation on the books about this. No dark-side people please. I really want to know.

doctor wants to do the cushion shots. Puts a cushioning the knee joint. Anyone know if this is a good thing?

orth.doc wants to put cushioning shots in my knees. Will this help or cause any further side effects toward replacement? I have severe pain and swelling.

What do you know about total knee replacement surgery?

My grandma is having total knee replacement surgery next week and I was wondering what exactly she would be going through. Could anyone walk me through the steps of the operation? Also, how much pain is she going to experience? The doctors told her zero, but I know that has to be bullshit.
